Decision-Making Process
What is the Decision-Making Process?
The process aimed at making a decision can be considered in two ways. In its very broad meaning, it is incredibly complex and consists of, among others:
- registering and evaluating information,
- identification,
- applying adopted selection criteria,
- determining and issuing a decision,
- registering the decision and its execution.
In its narrow interpretation, it is merely a stage of the decision-making process. It then means the moment when a conscious decision-maker makes a deliberate choice of one of several possible options that can lead to solving the decision problem. All possible options must have been previously identified and designed by the decision-maker.
Decision-making is therefore a process aimed at selecting the best of the available solutions. It encompasses logically related mental operations and often computational ones as well. This allows the decision-maker to choose the best decision option. To optimize this process, methods and techniques based on mathematical and statistical disciplines are used. Decision theory is utilized by mathematics, statistics, philosophy, psychology, as well as economics.
