Storytelling

What is Storytelling?

Storytelling is the conscious building of relationships through real-life stories and metaphors, in a way that engages the imagination and emotions of the listener. Storytelling is considered the most effective form of communication for hundreds of thousands of years, including in the context of content marketing. In global business, storytelling has been increasingly popular for nearly 50 years, while in Poland this trend is just beginning.

It is a way of speaking that relies on building a conscious message in the form of metaphors and stories. There are three key principles of storytelling.

  1. Build a connection. Marketing experts certainly realize that dialogue and interaction are the only truly effective way to gain genuinely engaged customers or business partners. Storytelling aims to build a connection also with a product, brand, service, or even an entire idea.
  2. Don't be afraid of emotions. Good storytelling is one that evokes emotions in the listener. However, this is not about using persuasion or manipulation techniques, but about consciously incorporating emotions in a way that allows the listener to better engage, for example, in the brand's mission. To maintain authenticity, remember that consistency matters, not just evoking one specific emotion such as sentimentality.
  3. Be authentic. Weaving a story that evokes various, often very strong emotions cannot happen without a sense of authenticity. This last principle determines the success of storytelling. Also in building relationships with a customer or business partner, it is important that they feel the authenticity of the actions taken and what we talk about.

How to use Storytelling in sales?

A great example here would be case studies. Authentic stories of your Customers will allow the Recipient to better understand your product/service and imagine its application in their own business. Such a case study, unlike a “dry” description or clichéd advertising copy, is much more emotionally charged and creates a bond with the Customer.
