Sales Proposal Personalization: Why It Matters

Personalization is a relatively new marketing phenomenon in sales. It is given more and more weight. Every client wants to be treated individually, wants to feel that we know them and their needs precisely. Yours too. That is nearly impossible, right? Yet personalizing our approach helps create exactly that impression. The trend works great, among other places, in sales proposals.

What is personalization?

As it turns out, personalization is one of the key factors that build our positive image in the client's eyes, which in turn often results in a purchase. But what is it actually about? Personalization is based on adapting the communication / product features to a specific client. Instead of delivering information to all recipients with identical, rigidly fixed formulas, we focus on the individual traits / needs of each of them. We present the proposal in such a way that the client sees themselves and their problems in the foreground - and notices the solutions. Thanks to personalization, the client should feel we understand their difficulties perfectly. That is not enough, though - we must assure them we are able to answer those difficulties. Who else will, if not us? After all, we know them so well.

And even if we do not... we know how to improvise. Let's take some trouble and gather as much information about them as possible. It will surely pay off.

What is the goal of personalization?

Goal number one - increasing sales. Significantly.

According to research by Gartner, as many as 54% of respondents would walk away from a purchase if the seller did not adapt the offer and the message to their expectations. That is why more and more sellers decide to use personalization in their sales processes.

What is more, it is not only about winning the client, but about keeping them. A client treated individually will see that we understand them, know what they need and - most importantly - help them solve their problems. They will keep coming back. And that also translates into profit.

Is it only about money?

No. Of course, business must be measurable and profitable. But an individual approach to the client works strongly in favor of our image. A client who feels we answer their needs will be happy with our service. And a happy client passes their opinion on.

How to personalize sales proposals?

Personalization works perfectly in the area of creating sales proposals. When creating one, you should take care of every smallest detail, so that at the very first contact with the document the recipient feels we got involved and spent time on it. It must be immediately visible that it is not a copy-paste template but something made especially for them. Your client wants to be treated individually - give them that feeling.

Here are a few tips from us:

  1. Start with research. Find out who your client is and what industry they operate in. Ideally, go a step further and determine what makes them stand out from the competition, what goals and values they have. Once you have the key information, move on to the personalization process.

  2. Choose a design suited to the specific client. As the leading color, you can use the one visible in their logo or on their website. You can also use colors associated with the industry, e.g. technology services - blue, suggesting trust and reliability.

  3. Remember to include the client's name and logo - that is the foundation. This way they will know at first glance that the proposal is addressed to them. They will feel obliged to read it.

  4. Present individualized terms. Above all, focus on the needs your client may be feeling. Do you have a ready formula describing your offer? This is not the best place for it. First present the solutions most useful for this specific client from this specific industry, and highlight them. They will feel you understand them perfectly and will see a partner in you.

  5. Put yourself in the client's shoes. Think what you would expect from your company in their place. It will make adapting the proposal to their requirements easier.

Does it have to be hard?

Deadlines are pressing. Client research alone takes plenty of time. And now you have to spend hours preparing a visually attractive proposal. It takes ages, you have to polish every detail yourself... Well, no!

This is where Sellizer comes with a solution.
