Papermark vs DocSend: which document sharing tool fits your team?

Both send a file as a tracked link and show how long each page was read. Papermark has a free plan, open source code and lower prices for small teams. DocSend adds e-signature on every plan, Gmail and Outlook add-ins and a paid Salesforce add-on.

Start from what you share and with whom

Papermark

You share decks and documents and want to start for free.

The free plan covers 50 documents with page-by-page analytics. Business gives 3 people a custom domain, email verification and an API for USD 69 a month. If your IT team prefers its own servers, the code is public.

DocSend

Your documents need a signature or end up in Salesforce.

Every plan can send documents for signature, and the add-ins work in Gmail and Outlook. Salesforce is a paid add-on from Standard. Advanced adds NDAs, watermarks and data room folders for 3 people.

Where Papermark and DocSend really differ

Free plan and price per team

  • Papermark Free costs nothing for one person and 50 documents. Business costs USD 69 a month for 3 people. DocSend has no free plan: Personal costs USD 10 per user, but the team features start with Standard at USD 45 per user, so 3 people pay USD 135 a month.

Open source and your own servers

  • Papermark publishes its code on GitHub under the AGPLv3 license, so a technical team can run it on its own infrastructure. Help with that and the self-hosted plan are part of Papermark Enterprise. DocSend lists no such option on its pricing page.

Signing

  • DocSend sends documents for e-signature with an audit trail: 4 requests a month per user on Personal, unlimited from Standard. Papermark has no e-signature. Its Data Rooms plan asks a visitor to accept an NDA before opening the files.

Email and CRM

  • DocSend works inside Gmail and Outlook on every plan and sells Salesforce as an add-on. Papermark has no CRM integration and no email add-in. From Business it offers an API, webhooks and an MCP server, so you connect it to other tools yourself.

Papermark or DocSend: which one to pick

Pick Papermark if you share pitch decks or documents, want to start for free and keep the cost low as the team grows, or if you want the option to host it yourself. Pick DocSend if documents also need a signature, if your team lives in Gmail or Outlook, or if visit data should reach Salesforce.

Both tell you who opened a file and how long they spent on each page, and both send the alert by email. Neither shows a heatmap of the reading or sends a text message when a buyer opens the file. How they compare with our tool: Sellizer vs Papermark and Sellizer vs DocSend. More options are in DocSend alternatives, and every DocSend plan with monthly and yearly prices is in DocSend pricing. What tracking tells a sales team after sending is explained on proposal tracking software.

Sellizer

An alternative from the team behind this comparison: proposal creation and sales analytics

Choose Sellizer if you want to prepare proposals faster and know what happens after you send them. See what catches clients' attention, who returns to a proposal and who could use a reminder.

What you gain

  • Send your own PDF or build a proposal in the dedicated editor, with or without AI. AI can create a proposal from scratch, improve an existing one, including one based on your PDF, or fill a template with client details. Proposals built in the editor use your logo and colors, and you can keep editing the content.
  • Heatmaps and session recordings show which sections clients view, skip or revisit. See what catches their attention and use those insights to improve future proposals.
  • Priority highlights clients who are active now, such as those returning to a proposal or downloading files. This helps you decide who to contact first.
  • Engagement remembers the highest level of interest a client has shown. It also highlights people who spent time reviewing a proposal but have not returned to it for a while.
  • Get an SMS alert when a proposal is first opened, while automatic follow-ups remind clients about it. Connect through MCP to ask AI about client activity and the performance of proposals you have sent.

What to consider

  • Sellizer does not have a built-in electronic signature or data rooms. Use DocSend or Papermark for those steps.
